Manjot has been exposed to multicultural values and ideas because of her education and her line of work. She is a graduate of Computer Science and a Post Baccalaureate of Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. She takes pride in SFAI’s rich history and its extensive engagement in the historical, theoretical, sociopolitical, and creative concerns of the contemporary moment.
Her works essentially focus on creating a parallel world but at the level of the human psyche. She believes that once the outer veil of the human skin is disregarded, one finds astounding similarities in how the human mind perceives the world despite any differences in race, color, or geographical factors. What fundamentally impacts the mind is how it has been nurtured. She bases her works on a simple principle, “The body can never reach as far as the mind will. Neither can it endure what the mind does.” She attempts to explore these atrocities and the continuance of the mind through her photographs.
With the juxtaposition of elements of dreams, reflections, and what the human mind endures, Manjot intends to create surrealist images that animate both the eye and the mind. These works are often accompanied by words of her own.
The artist lives in a hamlet by the Pacific Coast. When she’s not curious about looming smoke patterns or exhaust plumes over the Puget Sound skies, she likes to travel-a subject matter she intends to explore in her future projects. She has traveled to over forty diverse countries and likes to engage with the political pulse of the local communities.
